President John Dramani Mahama has formally commenced the construction of the Sentuo Airport Garden City, a proposed US$1.3 billion development near the Accra International Airport.
The President cut the sod for the project on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, signalling the start of what is expected to be a major addition to the airport enclave.
The development will feature approximately 582 premium apartments, a hotel, a 2,500-person conference facility, healthcare facilities, a shopping mall, gardens and 503 parking bays, alongside other commercial and leisure amenities.
President Mahama said the project fits into efforts to make Accra more attractive for business, tourism and investment.
He also linked the development to the government’s Reset Agenda and its 24-Hour Economy ambition, arguing that sectors including aviation, hospitality and events could sustain economic activity across different working hours.
The President said government would assess the impact of such projects based on the opportunities they create for Ghanaians.
“Ghana is open. Accra is rising. Let us build that future together,” he said.
Mahama also called for Ghanaian participation in the project and urged the developers to ensure that local businesses benefit from the opportunities associated with the development.
He further appealed to Ghanaians living abroad and international investors to consider investments in Ghana’s property and tourism industries.
“A successful tourism economy gives people reasons to stay longer, explore more widely and participate in the life of the country. Property investment can support that ambition through well-managed accommodation, homes and businesses that remain active throughout the year.”
