Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, says government has increased the average grant under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme by 70%, while raising the programme’s beneficiary ceiling from 350,000 to 450,000 households.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, September 16, the Minister said the average LEAP grant had increased from GH¢360 in 2024 to GH¢569.14 in 2026.
“The average LEAP grant (per cycle) has increased by 70% since 2024, from GHC360 to GHS569.14 in 2026.”
Dr. Lartey said the increase would be supported by an indexation mechanism designed to prevent the value of the grant from being eroded by inflation.
She also disclosed that the Ministry had completed a comprehensive reassessment of 350,000 beneficiary households using data from the Ghana National Household Registry.
According to her, the exercise resulted in more than 226,000 households graduating out of extreme poverty, while the programme ceiling was expanded to accommodate up to 450,000 households.
The Ministry has subsequently begun disbursing the first and second payment cycles of the 2026 LEAP programme, with the two cycles being paid together to eligible households.
The applicable bi-monthly rates range from GH¢380 to GH¢630, depending on household size and whether a household has a vulnerable member.
The development forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen social protection and expand support to vulnerable households across the country.
