Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has taken the lead over NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia in the party’s potential 2028 presidential contest, according to the latest poll by Global InfoAnalytics.
Dr. Forson recorded 32% support, rising from 22% in the organisation’s July poll, while Asiedu Nketiah’s support fell from 27% to 23%.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu followed with 5%, while Chief of Staff Julius Debrah polled 4%.
Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang had 3%, Professor Joshua Alabi 2% and Eric Opoku 1%. A total of 28% of delegates remained undecided.
The survey, conducted between September 11 and 13, 2026, placed Dr. Forson ahead in the Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Western, Western North and Bono regions.
Asiedu Nketiah, meanwhile, led in Ahafo, Bono East, North East, Savannah, Oti, Upper East, Upper West and Volta, while Haruna Iddrisu topped the Northern Region.
Global InfoAnalytics said Dr. Forson increased his support by seven percentage points in swing regions and 16 percentage points in Akan-dominated regions compared with the July poll.
The Finance Minister also led Asiedu Nketiah in a head-to-head matchup, securing 41% against 30%. In July, Asiedu Nketiah had led 34% to 33%.
However, Asiedu Nketiah maintained a strong advantage over Haruna Iddrisu in their direct contest, leading 41% to 11%, with 48% undecided.
The poll further found that 56% of delegates favour an economist as the NDC’s candidate to face Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 presidential election.
Among those who support an economist, 55% preferred Dr. Forson, compared with 22% for Asiedu Nketia.
On whether Asiedu Nketiah should remain NDC chairman, 58% of delegates supported his continued tenure, while 21% disagreed and 20% had no opinion.
Interestingly, among delegates who support his continued chairmanship, Dr Forson was still the preferred presidential candidate, attracting 54% compared with 19% for Asiedu Nketiah.
The survey sampled 3,615 delegates through random-probability telephone sampling and recorded a 93% completed-response rate.
The findings mark the first time Dr. Forson has moved ahead of Asiedu Nketiah in the Global InfoAnalytics poll, signalling a notable shift in the NDC’s internal 2028 contest.
