The Narcotics Control Commission, NACOC, has arrested three suspects allegedly linked to Dutch fugitive Jos Leijdekkers, popularly known as “Bolle Jos,” following a major cocaine seizure by French customs.
NACOC says the three suspects allegedly represented and facilitated the activities of the fugitive’s drug network in Ghana and are assisting investigators.
The Commission says the arrests followed the seizure of a cocaine shipment in France allegedly linked to the wider network.
The development comes amid growing concerns over Ghana’s alleged links to major international drug trafficking operations.
The Minority in Parliament has called for an independent parliamentary inquiry into a series of major narcotics seizures linked to Ghana, which it says have exceeded one billion US dollars in estimated street value over the past 18 months.
The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, says the seizures point to serious gaps in Ghana’s border security and anti-narcotics enforcement.
The Minority wants key security agencies and sector Ministers summoned before Parliament to account for efforts to prevent Ghana from being used as a transit point for narcotics.
