Hearts and Samartex maintain perfect GPL records as Kotoko beat Lions

Accra Hearts of Oak continued their impressive start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season with a 2-1 comeback victory over Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday.

The Phobians went into the break trailing after Gold Stars took the lead in the first half.

Hearts returned stronger after the interval, producing a spirited second-half performance to overturn the deficit and secure all three points.

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare played a crucial role in preserving the victory, saving a 90th-minute penalty to deny Gold Stars a late opportunity to equalise.

The result means Hearts have now won both of their opening league matches, following their emphatic 4-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea on Matchday One.

The win takes Hearts back to the top of the league table with six points, level with FC Samartex, who also maintained their perfect record with a 1-0 away victory over Aduana Stars.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko recorded their first win of the season after beating Kpando Hearts of Lions 2-1.

The victory ended Kotoko’s long wait for a win over the Lions, with their previous victory against them coming in 2015.

The three points move the Porcupine Warriors to four points after their disappointing opening-day draw against league debutants Debibi United.
