The government of Ghana has repatriated Ghanaian musician Isaac Obeng Mensah, popularly known as Barosky, from the United Kingdom back to Ghana. The move follows concerns over the welfare of the musician in Manchester where he had become homeless.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa took to social media to disclose the visibly troubled Barosky arrived safely in Ghana on Monday night. According to Mr. Ablakwa the expenses for the return was borne by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister disclosed that government is also providing the musician with psychosocial support and financial assistance to help him settle back into society.
Ablakwa in the post on social media expressed gratitude to Ghanaians singling out media personality Nana Romeo who drew attention to Barosky’s situation.
“We are most grateful to our fellow citizens, particularly Nana Romeo, for bringing Barosky’s heart-wrenching plight in Manchester to our attention.”
He also commended Ghana’s High Commission in the United Kingdom for what he described as its “impressive coordination” in facilitating the repatriation.
“I commend our High Commission in the UK for their impressive coordination.”
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s broader consular commitment, stressing that Ghanaian citizens in difficult circumstances abroad should not be left without assistance.
“We strive to leave no Ghanaian behind.”
The intervention comes after growing public concern over Barosky’s condition in Manchester, which attracted widespread attention following the circulation of distressing footage of the veteran musician on social media. The government’s latest action will now see him receive support as he begins the process of reintegration in Ghana.
