The Ghana Mini Football Association has unveiled its female national team as the country looks to build on its growing success and strengthen its presence on the international mini football stage.
The unveiling follows Ghana’s participation in the 2026 Mini Football Africa Cup of Nations in Libya, where the Ghana Sparks enjoyed an impressive campaign, returning home with four trophies.
According to Association President Bernard Paakow Ekumah, the recent achievements have further enhanced Ghana’s standing among Africa’s leading mini football nations.
Ghana is currently ranked fifth in Africa and 17th in the world, a position Ekumah believes reflects the progress made by the sport and the commitment of the players, technical team and officials.
The Ghana Sparks also made a strong individual impression at the continental tournament, with Ghanaian players winning Man of the Match awards in four of the five games they played.
“We came with four trophies, and for the five games that we played, we had Man of the Match awards in four of the games,” Ekumah said.
He believes the performances in Libya have helped raise Ghana’s profile in mini football and contributed to the country’s improved global ranking.
Despite the progress, however, the Association says fifth place in Africa is not the ultimate goal.
“Our target is that, with our ranking in Africa being fifth out of 47 countries, we want to go to the very top,” Ekumah said.
The Association is now looking to sustain the momentum by developing more players, improving preparations for international competitions and creating more opportunities for young people to take up mini football.
Ekumah also stressed the need for greater investment in the sport, calling on corporate organisations and other stakeholders to support the development of mini football in Ghana.
He is confident that with sustained backing, the sport can achieve even greater success while providing more opportunities for young talents.
