Motorists without urgent business in Kaneshie are being advised to avoid the area as a section of the Dr Busia Highway at Pamprom Junction has been temporarily closed to traffic.
The westbound carriageway was closed today, Monday, September 7, to allow for major underground drainage works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development Project, GARID.
GARID Project Coordinator, Dr Ohene Sarfo, says the closure is expected to worsen congestion in Kaneshie, already known as a major traffic hotspot.
He is therefore urging motorists to consider alternative routes, including the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue route through Abossey Okai and North Kaneshie before joining the N1.
Other motorists can use the Atta Mills Highway through Korle Bu and Dansoman, and exit around Mallam and Sakaman.
Dr Sarfo is also appealing to motorists who must use the affected route to cooperate with traffic management measures while the drainage works are underway.
The closure is expected to remain in place until late November, with the affected stretch scheduled to reopen in early December.
