President John Dramani Mahama has embarked upon another shakeup of his government, with the Minister for Labour, Employment and Job Creation, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo and Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi losing their portfolios. Dr. Pelpuo has now been moved to the Presidency to take charge of the Special Initiatives portfolio.
The Minister of State for Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, has been moved to the Labour, Employment and Job Creation Ministry.
Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, is now a Presidential Adviser on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness.
A statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu and released on Wednesday August 26, 2026 said the reassignments takes immediate effect.
The latest changes come about three weeks after President Mahama announced another reshuffle of his government which say Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and Mahama Ayariga for the Environment and Local Government portfolios respectively.
He also moved Kenneth Gilbert Adjei from the Works and Housing to the Defence as substantive Minister.
Mr. Adjei took over the Defence Ministry following the death of Dr Edward Omane Boamah in the military helicopter crash in August 2025.
Brogya Genfi served as Deputy Defence Minister under the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
Meanwhile, the ministerial nominations of Mr Ayariga and Dr Agyemang-Rawlings from the earlier reshuffle are still awaiting parliamentary vetting.
The vetting has been scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026.
