Adamus lease revocation: Chamber of Mines engages company, regulators

The Ghana Chamber of Mines says it is engaging Adamus Resources Limited and relevant regulatory authorities following the government’s decision to uphold the revocation of the company’s Akango, Salman, and Nkroful mining leases.

In a statement, the Chamber acknowledged the authority of the government and relevant regulatory institutions to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and promote responsible, safe, and environmentally sustainable mining.

It, however, stressed the importance of due process, fairness, and consistent application of the law in Ghana’s mining sector.

“Equally, the Chamber believes that adherence to the rule of law, due process, fairness, regulatory certainty, and the consistent application of the law is fundamental to maintaining confidence in Ghana’s mining industry,” it said.

The Chamber said it is seeking a full understanding of the circumstances surrounding the decision, including the findings of the review committee and the processes that led to the revocation.

It said its engagements with Adamus Resources and the regulatory authorities are particularly important given the potential implications for workers and host communities in the affected mining areas.

“The Chamber is particularly mindful of the need to safeguard workers and their livelihoods, contractors, host communities, and legitimate investments in Ghana, while ensuring that the country’s laws and regulatory requirements are fully respected,” it noted.

It has therefore urged all parties involved to continue to operate within the country’s legal and regulatory framework and use the appropriate legal and institutional channels to address any outstanding matters.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue with government, member companies, and other stakeholders to promote what it described as a responsible, transparent, predictable, and competitive mining industry.
