Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commissioned five envoys to represent Ghana in Kuwait, Nigeria, Niger, Norway and Sierra Leone, charging them to advance the country’s foreign policy interests and strengthen bilateral relations.
The five diplomats were formally inducted into their assignments at the Jubilee House on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang said the envoys were assuming office at a time of significant geopolitical changes, requiring Ghana to adopt a more active and strategic approach to international relations.
She urged them to ensure that Ghana remains visible and influential in international discussions and decisions affecting the country’s interests.
The Vice President also tasked the diplomats with promoting Ghana as an attractive destination for investment and economic cooperation, while defending the country’s interests abroad.
She further emphasised the need for Ghanaian citizens abroad to receive professional, efficient and compassionate services from Ghana’s diplomatic missions.
The envoys were specifically assigned priorities based on their respective countries.
The envoy to Kuwait was tasked with strengthening trade and investment ties, resolving outstanding issues and revitalising development cooperation.
In Sierra Leone, the envoy is expected to build on agreements reached through the Ghana-Sierra Leone Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation, particularly in trade, agriculture, energy and security.
For Nigeria, the focus will include deepening political and economic cooperation, expanding trade and investment, and addressing concerns affecting Ghanaian citizens and businesses.
The envoy to Niger has been tasked with strengthening bilateral relations and supporting efforts to address peace, security and stability challenges in the Sahel and West Africa.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s envoy to Norway is expected to pursue greater cooperation in green technology, the blue economy, education, research, innovation and sustainable natural-resource management.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged all five envoys to uphold high standards of professionalism and deliver on key performance indicators for Ghana’s missions abroad.
She encouraged them to represent Ghana with integrity and ensure their assignments create opportunities for citizens while advancing the country’s national interests.
