Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has formally handed over the administration of the Ministry of Defence to newly appointed Defence Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei.
The handover took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence, bringing Dr Ato Forson’s tenure as caretaker of the ministry to an end.

Dr Ato Forson was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to oversee the Defence Ministry following the death of the substantive minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
He subsequently provided interim leadership of the ministry for about a year while continuing to serve as Finance Minister.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has now assumed responsibility for the Defence Ministry following his appointment as the new substantive minister.
Mr Adjei was reassigned from the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Defence Ministry as part of President Mahama’s ministerial reshuffle announced on August 7, 2026.
The formal handover clears the way for Mr Adjei to begin his tenure as Defence Minister.
