GCB on robbery: No robbery or attempted robbery occurred at Labone branch

GCB Bank has clarified that no robbery or attempted robbery occurred at its Labone branch, following an earlier statement by the Ghana Police Service about a foiled robbery operation in the area.

The Police had reported on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that officers had foiled a planned robbery targeting banks in Labone, resulting in two suspected robbers being shot dead and another arrested.

However, GCB Bank says its Labone branch was not the location of the incident and that its premises were never breached.

In a statement, the bank said no customer or staff member was affected and that no funds or property belonging to the bank was compromised.

“GCB Bank wishes to clarify that no robbery or attempted robbery took place at our Labone Branch or on the Bank’s premises,” the bank said.

The bank assured customers that the Labone branch remains safe and secure and urged them to continue their banking activities without concern.

GCB Bank added that it is in contact with the relevant authorities and will continue to monitor developments surrounding the incident.

The clarification means the earlier police report should be understood as referring to a planned robbery operation in the Labone area, rather than an actual or attempted breach of the GCB Bank branch.
