Education Ministry orders full probe into violent attack on Obuasi SHTS Headmaster

The Ministry of Education has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately launch a full-scale investigation into the violent attack on the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) and ensure appropriate disciplinary sanctions are imposed on all those found responsible.

The directive follows Tuesday’s disturbance at the school, where students allegedly attacked the headmaster over unverified claims linking him to the burial of a foetus. The unrest escalated into acts of vandalism, resulting in damage to school property and forcing authorities to close the school indefinitely. Six students have since been arrested, while police continue investigations into the incident.

In a statement signed by Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry described the attack as criminal, reprehensible and unacceptable, stressing that violence and lawlessness have no place in Ghana’s educational institutions. Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has instructed the GES to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and apply sanctions in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the education sector.

The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, protecting school authorities and ensuring safe and secure learning environments across the country.
