A raging fire swept through a takeaway facility and a warehouse storing rubber products in the Tema Industrial Area in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving one firefighter injured during efforts to contain the blaze.
The fire broke out at about 12:40 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which deployed four fire tenders from the Tema Industrial, Devtraco, Motorway and Free Zones Fire Stations to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby businesses.
During the firefighting operation, a firefighter sustained injuries after a section of a wall collapsed while crews were battling the blaze. The injured officer was rushed to the Tema General Hospital and is receiving treatment.
After several hours of intensive firefighting, personnel successfully brought the fire under control. Firefighters remained at the scene conducting salvage and overhaul operations to eliminate any remaining hotspots and secure the affected structures.
The full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ghana National Fire Service.
