A self-styled Ghanaian pastor, Nana Yaw Bonsu, and his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, have been arrested over their alleged involvement in a romance scam that reportedly targeted multiple women in Ghana and Nigeria.
According to investigators, Bonsu allegedly convinced more than 10 women that they were destined by God to become his future wives.
He is accused of persuading the victims to send U.S. dollars to finance what he claimed was a tyre business, promising the investment would support their future together.
He is also accused of obtaining intimate images of some victims and using them to blackmail them for money.
Police further allege that his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, acted as a co-conspirator by posing as a trusted friend to some of the victims to gain their confidence and reinforce the alleged deception.
The alleged scheme came to light after some of the victims discovered one another and confronted Bonsu in an incident that later went viral on social media.
Police say seven victims have so far formally reported the matter, with investigations indicating that the alleged offences date back to 2021.
At a recent court hearing, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng was remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear before the court on August 6, 2026. His wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, was granted bail as investigations continue.
