Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has denied claims that he is planning to acquire the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO), insisting he has no interest in the company
It comes after workers of VALCO demonstrated in protest of the alleged planned takeover of the state-owned company by Mr. Mahama.
The staff of the company claim that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah, is positioning the company to be sold and has renewed calls for his dismissal.
But in a statement issued by his special aide on Monday, July 27, Mr. Mahama said he has no plans to acquire VALCO, saying the allegation is part of an attempt to damage his reputation.
“Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO. Unfortunately the allegation is the latest in several vile attempts to impugn the integrity of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements,” the statement said.
The statement further defended Mr. Mahama’s integrity as a business owner, insisting that his businesses “are one of the best-run operations across the African continent.”
It maintained that the longevity of the business mogul’s businesses attest to his commitment to sound corporate governance and prudent management
“All of the business interests of Mr. Mahama have been legally commenced or acquired and operate within the ambit of applicable laws. That explains why his businesses have survived for across seven (7) election cycles,” the statement continued.
It added that Mr. Mahama remained committed to supporting Ghana’s socio-economic development through investments in the country and elsewhere on the continent.
“He is committed to contributing his quota to the development of Ghana by investing in business opportunities in Ghana and beyond,” the statement noted.
According to the statement, Mr. Mahama has instructed his lawyers to take the necessary legal action over the publication and circulation of the said allegations
