Three people have died and 11 others have sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road crash at Ajumako Kokoben in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
The accident involved a Toyota Isuzu pickup truck with registration number GE 1361-25 and a Toyota Voxy with registration number CN 478-26.
Preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) indicate that the driver of the Toyota Voxy allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed but encountered poor visibility due to a thick cloud of dust on the road.
Investigators believe the driver failed to notice the oncoming Toyota Isuzu pickup truck, resulting in a head-on collision that extensively damaged both vehicles and trapped several occupants.
Firefighters from the Breman Asikuma Fire Service, led by Asikuma Fire Commander DO3 Christian Davidson, responded to a distress call and carried out rescue operations at the scene. Using specialized rescue equipment, the team extricated four victims who had been trapped in one of the vehicles.
Before emergency responders arrived, some passers-by had already rescued seven victims from the wreckage.
The injured were handed over to personnel from the Ghana National Ambulance Service and other medical teams before being transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Three victims, however, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Their bodies have been deposited at a nearby morgue pending identification and further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid dangerous overtaking, and reduce speed, particularly on dusty roads where visibility is poor, to help prevent similar accidents.
