Speaker Bagbin blames public cynicism on misuse of state resources, praises NIB turnaround

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has attributed the growing sense of hopelessness among many Ghanaians to the dissipation of resources by state agencies, saying the trend has caused some citizens to lose faith in the country’s future.

Speaking at the launch of a book authored by the Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB), Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria, Mr. Bagbin said the bank’s recovery demonstrates that strong leadership can reverse the fortunes of struggling public institutions.

He described the book, Rebuilding Confidence, Restoring Strength: The Story Behind NIB’s Remarkable Transformation, as an inspiring account of how visionary leadership helped restore the fortunes of the state-owned bank within just 18 months.

“The dissipation of resources by state agencies is part of the reason why Ghana has been turned into a country of cynics. Many have given up hope of this country ever getting to the Promised Land. For such people, I recommend this book,” Mr. Bagbin said.

The Speaker expressed confidence that if the leadership that transformed NIB could achieve such results, President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership could similarly transform the country.

“If Chief Dr. Doli-Wura’s good leadership could reset NIB, His Excellency John Mahama’s exemplary leadership will certainly transform this country,” he stated.

Mr. Bagbin urged leaders of state institutions and young public servants to read the book, describing it as a valuable guide on institutional transformation and public sector leadership.

He also congratulated the NIB Board, management and staff for what he described as their collective role in the bank’s recovery.

For his part, Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria recounted the journey behind NIB’s resurgence, outlining the reforms and strategic decisions that restored confidence and strengthened the bank after years of operational challenges.

The book chronicles the bank’s transformation and highlights the leadership principles that underpinned its recovery.
