Dagbon observes third-day prayers for late Yaa-Naa Abukari II amid heavy security presence.

The Dagbon Traditional Council is leading third-day prayers for the late Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari II, who passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The third-day prayers are being held in accordance with Islamic tradition, with Imams and Mallams expected to lead special prayers for the repose of the late King’s soul.

The observance marks an important stage in the funeral rites before the traditional succession process begins.

It comes after the late Yaa-Naa was laid to rest at the sacred precincts of the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi in the early hours of Monday, July 13, in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Dagbon Kingdom.

Security personnel have been deployed across the area to maintain order and ensure the proceedings at the Gbewaa Palace pass without any incident.
