Ex-NAFCO CEO Abdul-Wahab Aludiba released by EOCO.

The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been released following his re-arrest over the weekend.

Mr. Aludiba was re-arrested by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport last Saturday over allegations that he attempted to use false means to access his frozen Republic Bank account before travelling to the UK.

According to sources, Mr. Aludiba was released late on Wednesday night without any conditions

The re-arrest of the ex-NAFCO CEO on July 4 sparked fresh legal controversy with his lawyers questioning the basis for this detention.

Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr. Justice Srem-Sai had indicated that the Attorney-General would return to the High Court to seek a review of the order that allowed Mr. Aludiba to travel

Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba has been embroiled in a legal tussle relating to financial misconduct linked to his tenure as CEO of NAFCO.

He and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, were initially charged together with other accused persons over alleged financial offenses involving NAFCO.

The charges against the accused persons were later withdrawn after the Attorney-General’s Office said that fresh evidence had emerged, leading to their discharge by the court.

EOCO subsequently re-arrested Mr. Aludiba and his wife, prompting controversy over the legality of the action.

The ex-NAFCO boss has since maintained his innocence while his lawyers have challenged aspects of the state’s handling of the matter.

Meanwhile, his lawyer and former Attorney-General Godfred Dame says the charges are misleading and an attempt to justify the re-arrest of his client. He says no application had been filed to review the High Court order that granted Mr. Aludiba the permission to travel, contrary to claims made by the Attorney-General in that regard.
