Ghana High Commission to SA responds to viral video of Ghanaian “stranded” at South African airport

The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has addressed a viral video circulating on social media showing a Ghanaian national requesting evacuation assistance.

High Commissioner Benjamin Quashie confirmed that the individual, identified as Mr. Sylvester Boakye, acted on his own initiative and went to the airport without prior coordination with the Mission.

The High Commission assured that Mr. Boakye would receive the necessary support to return safely to Ghana once all administrative and logistical requirements are completed. It clarified that no chartered evacuation aircraft has yet arrived due to pending procedural and technical arrangements.

The Mission emphasized its ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and orderly evacuation process for all Ghanaian nationals who have registered voluntarily. The Ghanaian community in South Africa has been urged to rely on official channels for verified information.
