Police arrest woman over alleged threats against President Mahama in viral TikTok videos

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, over alleged threats and offensive conduct directed at President John Dramani Mahama (John Dramani Mahama) in viral social media videos.

According to a police statement, the arrest was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) in collaboration with the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.

Police said the suspect was seen in videos circulated on TikTok making insulting remarks about the President, allegedly threatening his life and inciting others to cause harm to both the President and the First Lady.

Authorities indicated that following investigations into the viral videos, a joint security operation led to the arrest of the suspect on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be put before court in the coming days.

The Police Service says investigations into the matter are ongoing.
