The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, is expected to appear before a court in the Netherlands within the next 48 hours following his arrest at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
The lawmaker was reportedly arrested over allegations relating to money laundering and romance scam-related offences, according to sources familiar with the case.
Sources close to the MP’s legal team indicate that he is preparing to challenge the legality of both his arrest and detention during his court appearance.
Parliament of Ghana officially confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror. The statement noted that Parliament had been formally informed of the incident and is currently engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather further details.
“The Speaker of Parliament and Parliamentary leadership are in close contact with Ghana’s mission in The Hague to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the detention,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has assured the public that the MP is safe and stable while in custody and has not suffered any harm.
The arrest has sparked widespread public interest, with many awaiting further details from Dutch authorities and the outcome of the upcoming court proceedings.
