The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released funds to senior high schools and senior high technical schools across the country to cover practical examination fees for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement signed by Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, the Service confirmed that the disbursement is aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of practical examinations nationwide. The funding will support the provision of essential materials and resources required for the exams.
According to GES, the intervention is also designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians, allowing students to focus fully on their academic work without additional cost pressures.
“This payment ensures that all practical examinations scheduled for the 2026 WASSCE are fully supported, including the provision of the required materials and other essential resources,” the statement noted.
GES further emphasised that the release of funds is part of broader efforts to promote efficiency and proper coordination in the administration of national examinations.
Regional, district, and school authorities have been urged to ensure that the funds are used strictly for their intended purpose. The Service warned that accountability measures will be enforced to guarantee transparency in the utilisation process.
“Management will continue to monitor the utilisation processes to ensure compliance and to maintain high standards in the administration of the examination,” the statement added.
The Service also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued cooperation in supporting quality education delivery and student success across the country.
The WASSCE remains a critical examination for final-year senior high school students, serving as a gateway to tertiary education and career opportunities.
