Mahama signals emergency cabinet meeting over global tensions, urges transport unions to stay calm

President John Mahama has hinted at the possibility of convening an emergency Cabinet meeting to deliberate on measures to cushion Ghana’s economy amid rising global tensions.

The concerns stem from escalating geopolitical developments involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which have the potential to trigger economic shocks, particularly in fuel prices and transport costs.

Speaking at the Second Annual Kwahu Business Forum in the Eastern Region, the President said government is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to respond swiftly to protect the local economy.

He also appealed to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union and other transport operators to exercise patience and restraint over potential fare adjustments as government works to stabilize the situation.

The Kwahu Business Forum brought together key government officials, financial institutions, chief executive officers, and industry leaders to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening Ghana’s economic resilience and long-term growth.
