The Ministry of Roads and Highways has issued a strong disclaimer rejecting claims made in a BioNews publication dated April 2, 2026, describing the report as false, misleading, and a misrepresentation of official submissions to Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The article in question, titled “He Was Paying Contractors on Our Behalf Without Our Knowledge – Roads Ministry Director Reveals,” alleged irregular financial conduct involving ministry officials. However, the Ministry has firmly denied these claims, clarifying that the statements attributed to its Director of Finance were taken out of context.
According to the Ministry, the submissions made before the PAC were strictly in response to queries arising from the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report. These queries, officials emphasized, relate solely to historical financial transactions within a defined audit period and do not reflect actions taken under the current leadership of either the Ministry of Roads and Highways or the Ministry of Finance.
“The claims contained in the publication are false, misleading, and a complete misrepresentation,” the statement said, stressing that the issues discussed at the PAC were part of routine accountability processes tied to past records.
The Ministry has therefore demanded a full retraction and an unqualified apology from BioNews. It further called on the media outlet to give the disclaimer the same level of prominence as the original story in order to correct public perception.
This development highlights ongoing tensions between public institutions and sections of the media over the interpretation and reporting of proceedings from oversight bodies such as the PAC, which plays a key role in scrutinizing government expenditure based on the Auditor-General’s findings.
As of now, BioNews has not publicly responded to the Ministry’s demands.
