Five people have been confirmed dead following renewed violence in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The victims—three males and two females—were retrieved from two separate locations by a joint security and emergency response team.
The team comprised personnel from the Police, Military, Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the attacks and to identify those responsible.
In response to the escalation, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Wednesday night, March 25, deployed two armoured vehicles along with officers from the National Police Operations Unit to reinforce security and prevent further disturbances.
A statement signed by Deputy Superintendent John Nchor of the Oti Regional Public Affairs Unit indicated that the deployment has helped restore calm, with the situation currently under control.
The Police have called on residents to remain calm and assist security agencies with credible information to support ongoing investigations.
They also cautioned the public against spreading misinformation or engaging in actions that could heighten tensions in the area.
