SWAG Volta to mark 8th anniversary with Kwabena Yeboah public lecture

The Volta Regional branch of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will commemorate its eight years of existence with a public lecture focused on advancing sports journalism.

The event, dubbed the “Kwabena Yeboah Public Lecture on Sports Journalism,” is scheduled for April 9, 2026, at Nagrat Hall in Ho.

The lecture forms part of activities marking SWAG Volta’s contribution to sports development and media practice in the region over the past eight years.

President of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah, will deliver the keynote address on the theme: “Eight Years of SWAG Volta; The Impact and Development in Sports Journalism.” He is expected to highlight the association’s achievements while addressing challenges facing the profession.

The programme will be hosted by the SWAG Volta Chairman, Eric Eli Adzie, and is expected to attract key stakeholders in the sports and media landscape.

Notable personalities billed to attend include Charles Osei Asibey, General Secretary of SWAG, and Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Volta Region.

Other speakers include the Volta Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Philipina Frimpong; Volta Regional Tourism Director, Roberta Okaine-Fumador; and former national athlete, Godwin Adukpo. They are expected to share perspectives on sports development and the critical role of journalism in shaping the sector.

Organisers say the lecture will provide a platform for meaningful engagement among stakeholders, offering an opportunity to reflect on progress made while charting a path for the future of sports journalism in the region and beyond.

SWAG Volta has extended an open invitation to the public, urging stakeholders and enthusiasts to participate in discussions aimed at strengthening sports reporting and development in Ghana.
