Ghana successfully evacuates citizens from Israel amid Middle East tensions

The Government of Ghana has successfully evacuated all Ghanaians who requested assistance from Israel, bringing them safely back home. The operation also included some diplomatic staff from Ghana’s Embassy in Tel Aviv, while a few essential personnel remain to provide ongoing consular support.

This follows the Government’s earlier announcement on March 2, 2026, that it had activated emergency evacuation plans for citizens in the Middle East amid escalating regional tensions. At the time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was “closely monitoring with serious concern the escalating hostilities” and had begun preparing to assist Ghanaians in affected countries.

In preparation for the evacuation, the Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghanaian Embassy in Israel and authorities in Egypt and Israel, undertook detailed planning, including identifying citizens who wished to return, arranging secure transit routes, and coordinating flights. Early communication with residents in Israel and careful monitoring of security developments ensured that the operation could proceed safely.

The Government expressed gratitude to Israeli and Egyptian authorities for their cooperation and logistical support. “Through these combined efforts, the Government ensured that no Ghanaian wishing to return home was left behind,” the Ministry said.

“The Government warmly welcomes our compatriots who have returned and reiterates its commitment to the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians abroad,” the Ministry added. Citizens remaining in Israel have been advised to stay in contact with the Embassy for consular support as needed.
