Minority demands parliamentary briefing on alleged presidential private jet use

The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called on Parliament to invite the Minister for Foreign Affairs to brief the House on reports concerning the alleged use of a private jet linked to the President’s brother for official travel.

Raising the matter during deliberations on the business statement on the floor of Parliament, Shaib urged leadership to ensure the minister appears before the House to provide clarity on the ownership of the aircraft and the cost implications to the state when it is used for official duties.

According to him, Parliament has a constitutional duty to ensure transparency and accountability in matters involving public funds and the use of private assets for government functions.

Shaib specifically requested confirmation on whether the private jet reportedly used by the President is owned by his brother and demanded full disclosure on any financial arrangements between the government and the aircraft’s owner.

He noted that such issues must be openly addressed to maintain public trust and ensure that state resources are used responsibly.

Beyond the aircraft matter, the Deputy Minority Chief Whip also asked the Foreign Affairs Minister to update Parliament on earlier assurances that the government would construct airports across all regions in Ghana.

Shaib stated that the minister had previously made commitments regarding the development of regional airports and that Parliament must now be informed about the progress and current status of the initiative.

He stressed that major policy promises, especially those with significant implications for national development and public expenditure, require regular updates to the House.

The lawmaker therefore urged parliamentary leadership to schedule a session for the minister to appear before Members of Parliament to provide detailed explanations and respond to questions on both issues.
