The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said public concerns over President John Dramani Mahama’s use of private jets owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, are justified and should be clearly explained to Ghanaians.
Godwin Ako Gunn, Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, told Morning Starr that while using the aircraft may be cost‑effective compared to commercial travel, the government’s failure to communicate the arrangement transparently has fuelled speculation and uncertainty.
“We wouldn’t say that they are not justified… we must explain to the people of Ghana why this is happening,” Ako Gunn said, stressing that clear information is key to maintaining public confidence.
He noted that using Ibrahim Mahama’s jets could reduce costs for the state and highlighted that one of the jets has been converted into an air ambulance available to all Ghanaians. However, he insisted that transparency must accompany such arrangements to reassure citizens that they do not amount to impropriety or misuse of public resources.
The debate comes amid heightened scrutiny of the administration’s travel policies and arrangements, part of broader public discussion on governance and accountability.
