Two Dead and 19 Injured in Devastating Multi-Vehicle Crash on N1 Highway Near Achimota

Achimota, Ghana – February 24, 2026 – A tragic multi-vehicle crash on the N1 Highway near the Achimota footbridge has left two dead and 19 others injured. The accident occurred on the evening of Monday, February 23, involving three vehicles: a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20).

 

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that they were alerted to the crash at 19:58 GMT on Tuesday, February 24. Emergency teams were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they carried out rescue operations and provided immediate medical care to the victims.

Sadly, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while 19 others were rushed to nearby hospitals, including the Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital. The victims are currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

The GNFS, alongside other emergency responders, worked diligently to secure the accident site, prevent further incidents, and clear the road to restore normal traffic flow. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of road accidents and the need for improved safety measures on Ghana’s highways. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.

As investigations continue, the authorities are yet to release the identities of the deceased or provide further details about the conditions of the injured victims. The incident remains a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and emergency preparedness.
