Ghana to Square off Against Mexico in Pre-World Cup Friendly

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, is really gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the Ghana Football Association just announced another big friendly match. They’ll be taking on Mexico in what will be their third confirmed warm-up game before the tournament kicks off in June.

Coach Otto Addo’s squad already had friendlies lined up against Austria and Germany in March, so this match against Mexico adds another excellent opportunity for the team to fine-tune their strategy and get in top form for the global event happening in North America.

For Mexico, who is one of the three host nations, this friendly is super important. They’re using it to get ready for their World Cup opener against South Africa on June 11. Playing Ghana gives them crucial experience against an African opponent ahead of that match.

Meanwhile, Ghana will find this game particularly helpful as a dress rehearsal for their own Group L debut. They’re set to face Panama, a team with a similar football style to Mexico, in their first group stage match on June 17 in Toronto. After that, they’ll go head-to-head with England and Croatia in their other group fixtures.

The clash with Mexico is slated for Friday, May 22, 2026, though the exact location in Mexico is still under wraps. By that point, both teams are expected to have pretty much finalized their rosters and will be making those crucial last-minute tactical adjustments before the tournament proper.
