A day-old baby girl has been found abandoned in a bush at Bronyibima Estate near Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region.
The infant was discovered around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, by a local rabbit farmer who had gone out to gather feed for his animals. According to reports, he initially heard cries and thought they were coming from an animal. Upon checking, he found the newborn wrapped in cloth and placed inside a polythene bag.
The farmer raised an alarm, attracting nearby residents who helped rescue the baby. The child was quickly taken to Bronyibima Hospital for medical attention.
Health officials say the baby is in stable condition and receiving care.
The Social Welfare Department of the KEEA Municipality has taken custody of the child and will oversee her welfare while investigations continue.
The case has been reported to the police for further investigation.
