Police officers on duty at the Tinkong Police checkpoint on the Koforidua–Mamfe Highway in the Eastern Region have arrested a woman for allegedly trafficking a large quantity of suspected narcotics believed to be cannabis.
The suspect was travelling in a Toyota Voxy commercial vehicle from Koforidua to Accra on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, when the vehicle was stopped at the police barrier.
The officers — three men and two women — conducted a routine but thorough search of the vehicle and passengers’ luggage.
During the inspection, they discovered an Ecolac bag at the back of the vehicle containing large quantities of wrapped substances suspected to be narcotics, concealed beneath clothing.
The woman was identified as the owner of the bag and was immediately arrested at the scene.
According to police sources, the suspect admitted ownership of both the bag and its contents and is said to have told officers she had been involved in drug peddling for some time as a means of livelihood.
Eastern Regional Correspondent of EIB Network, Kojo Ansah, who witnessed the incident while en route to Mamfe, reported that the suspect and the seized exhibits have been transported to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
