Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has set up a seven-member committee to investigate allegations of unethical medical practices at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, also known as Ridge. Last week, the Ministry of Health announced plans to investigate issues raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate, concerning the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital. The expose revealed troubling incidents including alleged exploitation through referrals, inflated and opaque billing, raising questions over several professional and ethical issues.
Following through with the earlier plans, the committee was announced in a statement issued on Thursday, January 29.

The committee is chaired by Alhaji Dr Inua Yusuf, Head and Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Health, and includes senior medical professionals, regulators, engineers and civil society representatives drawn from key health sector institutions.

Its mandate is to conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations at the two hospitals and to evaluate the effectiveness of existing governance, oversight and control systems meant to prevent unethical and unauthorised practices. The minister has directed the committee to submit its final report and recommendations by February 10, 2026.

The Ministry of Health has pledged full cooperation with the investigation, stating its commitment to upholding ethical standards and restoring public confidence in Ghana’s healthcare system.
