Ghana to Relaunch National Airline Within 12 Months, Says Transport Minister

Ghana is poised to relaunch a national airline within the next 12 months, Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has announced, signaling the government’s renewed commitment to restoring a homegrown carrier. Speaking at Kotoka International Airport during the inaugural Air Tanzania flight, the sector minister said the government is confident that all outstanding regulatory approvals and documentation will be completed on schedule.

A dedicated task force has been established to manage the technical and financial planning of the new airline, ensuring it is sustainable, competitive, and strategically positioned to enhance Ghana’s role as a regional aviation hub. The minister noted that while details on ownership, funding, and fleet acquisition are yet to be finalized, the revived airline will improve connectivity, support exporters, and potentially lower travel costs for passengers.

This announcement marks the most concrete step taken by the government toward reviving a national carrier since the liquidation of Ghana Airways, aiming to give Ghana a renewed presence in the international aviation sector.
