Sepp Blatter Calls For Boycott Of 2026 World Cup In The US

Ex-FIFA President, Sepp Latter has urged football fans heading to North America this coming summer for the World Cup to boycott the 2026 mundial in the United States of America.

Sepp Blatter, the former FIFA president, expressed his concerns about the 2026 World Cup in the US on social media, specifically on X (formerly Twitter), saying “For the fans, there’s only one piece of advice: stay away from the USA!” He endorsed comments made by Swiss anti-corruption lawyer Mark Pieth, who questioned the suitability of the US as a host country due to its immigration policies and recent violence.

This call comes at a time time the US is gearing up to host the rest of the world alongside Canada and Mexico in five months time.

More so this latest development comes amid growing concerns over immigration issues coupled with Americans who were brutalized by US Immigration and Customs officers in Minneapolis as well as the killing of two nationals in Minnesota which has ignited widespread protests across the country

Sepp Blatter’s criticism isn’t fresh, as he recently slammed his successor Gianni Infantino for awarding a peace prize to US President Donald Trump and as such the boycott call is gaining roots, with football fans arguing the US isn’t fit to serve as host nation for the tournament as a result of its increasing immigration policies and recent violence.

Similar solidarity protests happened in London, England as calls for the boycott of the mundial keeps on snowballing and heightening as the days go by.

The 2026 World Cup will be tri-hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19 the year and it will be the first time in 32 years the musical returns to North America after the US hosted it in 1994 with Mexico hosting in 1986.
