The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted a vehicle transporting suspected narcotics along the Accra–Aflao Highway in a targeted intelligence-led operation.
According to a police statement issued on January 22, officers stopped a black Jeep Liberty with registration number FK 692 KF near Kpotame, close to Sogakope, on Wednesday, January 21.
The driver, identified as 46-year-old Nigerian national Charles Adenkule, was arrested and is assisting with investigations.
A search of the vehicle uncovered ten one-kilogram parcels of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine. Police estimate the street value of the drugs at GH¢1,032,650. Officers also found about half a kilogram of compressed dried leaves, believed to be Indian hemp, hidden behind the inner lining of the vehicle’s boot.
The operation followed intelligence received by the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Akorli, from the Police Intelligence Unit. A joint team made up of personnel from the Police Intelligence Department (PID), Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), and Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) carried out the interception.
DCOP Akorli praised the officers for their professionalism and integrity, noting they resisted attempts to influence the process.
The seized substances will be sent to the Forensic Laboratory for further analysis.
