Police Probe Alleged Ritual Killing Plot After Child Rescued in Eastern Region

The Eastern South Police Command has arrested a man identified as Coffie Agyemang for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for one million Ghana cedis.

According to police sources, the suspect was apprehended following intelligence-led operations after information was received about a possible attempt to traffic the child. The circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction are currently under investigation.

Other sources have further alleged that the suspect intended for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, after which the body would be returned to him in an attempt to make it appear that the child had been murdered at a different location.

Police authorities say these claims form part of ongoing investigations and stress that the allegations are yet to be substantiated.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern South Police Command, DSP David Fianko Okyere, said the suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. He noted that preliminary inquiries are aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motive behind the alleged plan and the roles played by all persons involved.

DSP Okyere added that the Ghana Police Service is treating the matter with urgency due to its sensitive nature and the safety concerns surrounding the child.

Meanwhile, the child has been placed in protective custody under the care of relevant authorities to ensure their safety and well-being as investigations continue. Police say further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
