Price of Premix Fuel Reduces Significantly in January 2026

The price of premix fuel saw a significant reduction of 16% on 1st January 2026, compared to the last price review on 1st October 2025. This is a development that is favourable to end users, who are typically fisher-folk.

The product was priced at GHS5.3557 per litre at the same time last year, indicating about 18% year-on-year reduction.

This price reduction is mainly due to the strong performance of the Ghana Cedi against the US Dollar, combined with a significant reduction in the price of gasoline (the main product used for the preparation of premix fuel) on the international market.

In addition, Government subsidizes the price of premix fuel by 50%. The price is therefore reviewed every quarter by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to ensure that the subsidy does not exceed the 50% cap. The Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs) are also reimbursed for any under-recovery they incur due to the subsidy intervention by government.

This periodic release of funds to pay the outstanding under-recoveries due the BIDECs is to ensure uninterrupted supply of the product. To this effect, Government has released a total of GHS115.96 million as at the end of December 2025 to settle the under-recoveries that had accrued up to September 2025.
