Tunisia’s head coach Sami Trabelsi has been dismissed with immediate effect after the Carthage Eagles’ Round of 16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Tunisia lost 3-2 on penalties to Mali, marking their sixth failure to reach the quarterfinals in their last eight AFCON tournaments.
Trabelsi, who assumed charge in 2025, successfully guided Tunisia to World Cup qualification without conceding a goal during the qualifiers. However, his tactical approach at AFCON faced criticism for being overly cautious and underutilizing the team’s attacking potential.
The Tunisian Football Federation plans to appoint a new coach in the coming weeks as preparations for the World Cup intensify.
