Senegal is set to take on Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 at the Grand Stade de Tangier this Saturday. The Teranga Lions topped Group D with seven points, while Sudan advanced as one of the best third-placed teams after finishing third in Group E.
Senegal enjoyed a strong group stage, winning two matches and drawing one, scoring seven goals and conceding just one. They aim to reach the quarterfinals for the fourth time in their last five AFCON appearances. However, Senegal will be without captain Kalidou Koulibaly, who is suspended for the match.
Sudan has surprised many by reaching the knockout stage. Despite losing two group games, they secured a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in their final group match. Historically, Sudan has struggled in the tournament, winning only two of their 19 AFCON matches since 1970, and their recent form is weak, with four losses in their last five games.
Given Senegal’s solid form and Sudan’s challenges, Senegal is favored to win, with a predicted scoreline of 2-0 or 3-0.
