Two people have died following a tragic road accident on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway at Abakam in the early hours of Tuesday, 23rd December 2025.

The Elmina Fire Station received a distress call around 5:11 a.m. reporting a collision involving a Toyota Corolla (registration number GS 2455-25) and a Sprinter bus (registration number WR 316-24).


Upon arrival, rescue teams found the two vehicles had collided, resulting in multiple casualties. Fourteen injured persons had already been rescued and taken to hospitals before the fire service team arrived. Four victims were admitted to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Hospital, while ten others were taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for medical care.
The fire service promptly cleared debris from the road to prevent further accidents and restore traffic flow on the busy highway.

A follow-up at the health facilities confirmed that two of the four victims admitted to UCC Hospital succumbed to their injuries.
Both vehicles sustained partial damage. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
This incident highlights growing concerns over road safety on the Cape Coast–Takoradi highway, particularly during early morning hours.
