The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect connected to a series of thefts during the recently held Diaspora Summit 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre. Regan Kwesi Addo, also known as Morgan Addo, was detained following a covert police operation prompted by multiple complaints from participants reporting stolen electronic devices and personal valuables.
Superintendent of Police and Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Juliana Obeng, disclosed that preliminary investigations reveal the suspect used deceptive tactics to steal ATM cards. He reportedly created difficulties for users at ATM locations, then approached victims under the guise of offering assistance and swapped their ATM cards.
“He [the suspect] allegedly manipulates situations at the ATM locations to make transactions difficult for users, Â after which he approaches victims under the pretext of offering assistance and swaps their ATM cards”
Further investigations indicate that Addo is also suspected of stealing ATM cards and other valuables from conference participants by accessing bags and laptops during break times.
A search of the suspect’s residence in Ashaley Botwe led to the recovery of eight ATM cards belonging to different individuals. These cards have been retained as evidence for ongoing investigations. Superintendent Obeng added,
“Recovered ATM cards have been retained as exhibits for further investigations. Police will formally engage the respective banks to assist in tracing rightfulness of the cards to support our ongoing investigations.”
