The 23-year-old striker opened the scoring in the 40th minute, coolly converting Ismail Jakobs’ low cross. He doubled Senegal’s lead just before the hour mark, showcasing his agility and quick feet. Substitute Cherif Ndiaye sealed the win with a well-taken strike in the closing stages.
A brace for Nicolas Jackson against Botswana, he becomes the first player to score a brace at the ongoing AFCON after 5 matches.
Senegal’s convincing victory puts them top of Group D on goal difference, ahead of DR Congo who edged Benin 1-0 earlier. Botswana will look to regroup in their next match.
Coach Malik Thiaw’s side dominated possession and created numerous chances, with Jackson’s clinical finishing making the difference. “We were excellent, very solid,” Cisse said post-match.
