The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has approved increases in water and electricity tariffs of 15.92% and 9.86%, respectively, effective January 1, 2026. These tariffs will be in effect from 2026 to 2030.
The tariff review aligns with the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) regime and has been carried out in accordance with sections 3, 16, 17, 18, 20, and 21 of the PURC Act, 1997 (Act 538). The MYTO framework typically schedules major tariff reviews every 3 to 5 years.
The last comprehensive review, which accounted for both capital and operational expenses, was conducted in September 2022 and is due for reassessment in 2025. This latest review is distinct from quarterly reviews that focus solely on operational costs (OPEX), which are factors outside the control of service providers.
In determining the new tariffs, the Commission considered the investment needs of the utilities to ensure continued service delivery and infrastructure development.
