GRDA Orders Encroachers To Evacuate As It Steps Up Security After Multiple Attacks on Tema-Mpakadan Train Service

The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) is intensifying efforts to safeguard its operations following two disturbing incidents on November 11, 2025.
The first incident involved the fourth stone attack on the Tema–Mpakadan train service since October 1, 2025, when a window of one of its Diesel Multiple Units was shattered during regular service hours. The perpetrators fled before security could intervene, according to Sahadatu Alhassan, Head of Corporate Affairs at GRDA.

Later that evening, the General Manager of passenger service operations at Tema, K. Busia, was assaulted near Ashaiman while returning home. His vehicle was damaged, but bystanders overpowered the two armed attackers, who are now in police custody. Mr. Busia is receiving medical care.

Earlier this month, on October 21, 2025, a minor was coerced into throwing stones at a moving train, cracking its windshield. The following day, an attempt was made to derail the train by placing a stone on the tracks.

In response to this worrying pattern, GRDA is working closely with security agencies to clear encroachers along the railway right of way and restore safety.

“We are issuing a formal directive for all unauthorized occupants and structures along the railway lines to vacate the premises. Eviction processes will begin immediately. This measure is necessary to ensure the safety of our workers, passengers, and the public,” stated GRDA.
