The government has approved a 9 percent salary increase for all public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the 2026 fiscal year.
The National Tripartite Committee also agreed to raise the national daily minimum wage from GH₵19.97 to GH₵21.77, effective January 1 to December 31, 2026.
Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson reaffirmed the government’s commitment to economic stability and improving workers’ conditions, assuring that the Ministry of Finance and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) will oversee full implementation.
While TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah acknowledged workers’ acceptance of the increment, he cautioned against new taxes or tariff hikes that could erode its benefits.
However, the Concerned Labour Unions of Ghana expressed disappointment, stating that the 9 percent adjustment falls short of their demanded 20 percent increase. They also criticized the exclusion of some labour bodies from the negotiation process, emphasizing the need for inclusive representation.
The increment, approved by the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC), will take effect throughout 2026.
